Captured entirely in black and white, Music – An Intimate View, explores the intimate relationship musicians have with their instruments and their audiences.
Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes explains that ”A special instrument feels like an extra limb. Once you find that one instrument, a replacement is really hard to come by, and you have to introduce yourself to a whole new limb and get used to it all over again.“
The relationship musicians have with the audience has never been closer in the digital age and the demands brought by social media, and I feel that connection is often at its strongest in the intimate confines of pub, bar and small club gigs.
The photographs, I hope, capture the intimacy of both of these relationships, with monochrome used to remove as many distractions from that view as possible.
